The liquefied metal expanding on solid solidification is:

    A) \[HBr\]

    B)        \[p{{K}_{a}}\]

    C)        \[{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{5}}C{{H}_{2}}OC{{H}_{3}}\]

    D)        \[HI\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Gallium (At. no. 31) is soft, silvery metal placed in IIIA group in periodic table. Its melting point is \[log{{[{{N}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}]}_{t}}={{[{{N}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}]}_{0}}+kt\]. This metal expands by 3.1% when it solidifies and hence, should not be stored in glass or metal containers. Gallium also corrode other metals.
