Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion:  \[SiF_{6}^{2-}\] is known but \[SiCl_{6}^{2-}\] is not. Reason: Size of fluorine is small and its lone pair of electrons interacts with d-orbitals of Si strongly.

    A) If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.

    B) If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

    C) If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D) If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion. \[SiF_{6}^{2-}\] is known, as F has small size and thus, the ion is quite stable unlike \[SiCl_{6}^{2-}\]in which size of \[Cl\] atom is large which destabilise it.
