Gibberellins can promote seed germination because of their influence on:

    A) rate of cell division

    B) production of hydrolyzing enzymes

    C) synthesis of abscisic acid

    D)  absorption of water through hard seed coat

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Gibberellins can promote seed germination because of their influence on production of hydrolyzing enzymes. In barley and other grass seeds the embryo releases gibberellins causing the aleurone layer of the endosperm to produce enzymes (i.e., a-amylase) which converts stored starch into mobilize sugars for germination.
