Haemophilia is a hereditary (X-linked recessive) disease in which blood fails to clot due to absence of factor-VIII. Insertion of LINE transposable element into the factor VIII gene is responsible for this classic haemophilia. This disease is also called haemophilia-A. Haemophilia-B or Christmas disease occurs due to factor IX (plasma thromboplastin comporent) deficiency. Prothrombin producing platelets in such person are not found in very low concentration.
