Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: The atmospheric concentration of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] at which photosynthesis just compensates for respiration is referred to as \[C{{O}_{2}}\] compensation point. Reason: The \[C{{O}_{2}}\] compensation point is reached when the amount of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] uptake is less than that generated through respiration because the level of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] in the atmosphere is more than that required for achieving \[C{{O}_{2}}\] compensation point.

    A) If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    B) If both Assertion and Reason are true but the Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    C) If Assertion is true statement but Reason is false.

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false statements.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The point at which \[C{{O}_{2}}\] released in respiration is exactly compensated by \[C{{O}_{2}}\] fixed in photosynthesis is called compensation point. Since, the rate of fixation of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] in photosynthesis just balances the rate of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] released in respiration, the net photosynthesis is zero at compensation point.
