    Assertion: Agrobacterium tumefaciens is popular in genetic engineering because this bacterium is associated with the roots of all cereal and pulse crops. Reason: A gene incorporated in the bacterial chromosomal genome-gets automatically transferred to the crop with which the bacterium is associated.

    A) If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    B) If both Assertion and Reason are true but the Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    Solution :

    Agrobacterium tumefaciens infects certain plants in which Ti plasmid (not chromosomal genome) causes the formation of tumour like growth called a crown gall. Agrobacterium does not infect grasses (i.e., cereals).
