Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: \[H-S-H\] bond angle in \[{{H}_{2}}S\] is closer to \[{{90}^{o}}\] but \[H-O-H\] bond angle in \[{{H}_{2}}O\] is \[{{104.5}^{o}}\]. Reason: \[lP-lP\] repulsion is stronger in \[{{H}_{2}}S\] than in \[{{H}_{2}}O\].

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Correct reason to assertion is that lone pair-bond pair repulsion, is strong in \[{{H}_{2}}S\] as bond pair-bond pair repulsion becomes weak with increase in size of central atom.
