Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: \[F-F\] bond in \[{{F}^{2}}\] molecule is strong. Reason: F atom is small in size.

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false.

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

\[F-F\] bond in \[{{F}_{2}}\] is weaker than \[Cl-Cl\] bond in \[C{{l}_{2}}\] due to the lower bond energy of \[{{F}_{2}}\], despite shorter bond length is due to repulsion between lone pairs on two F atoms.
