Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: Arachidic acid is an unsaniratei fatty acid. Reason: There are present one or more double bonds between carbon atoms E unsaturated fatty acids.

    A) If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion.

    B) If both Assertion and Reason are true but the Reason is not the correct explanations of Assertion.

    C) If Assertion is true, but Reason is false.

    D) If both Assertion and Reason are false.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Fatty acids which lack any double or triple bond in their hydrocarbon chain are known as saturated fatly acids. Example lauric acid, arachidic acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid etc in contrast to saturated fatty acids, unsaturated fatty acids have one or more double bonds between carbon atoms at fixed place along the hydrocarbon chain. Example palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, arachidonic acid etc.
