Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: Ocean waves hitting a beach are always found to be nearly normal to the shore. Reason: Ocean waves hitting a beach are assumed as plane waves.

    A)  If both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion

    B)  If both Assertion and Reason are true but the Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion

    C)  If Assertion is true but Reason is false

    D)  If both Assertion and Reason are false

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Waves produced on the surface of water are transverse in nature. When such wavs are produced in water they spread out. Till the ocean waves reach the beach-shore, they acquire such a large radius of curvature that they may be assumed as plane waves. Hence, ocean waves hit the beach normally to the shore.
