    Solution :

    Iodoform test is carried out in hot alkaline medium. Under these conditions the esters will hydrolyse to give corresponding alcohols. Now ethyl alcohol will respond to iodofonn test to give yellow ppt. of iodoform while methanol will give no iodoform.
