Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: In benzinidazole, both the nitrogens (\[\overset{I}{\mathop{N}}\,\] and \[\overset{II}{\mathop{N}}\,\]) are basic. Reason: Lone pair of electrons present on \[\overset{I}{\mathop{N}}\,\] are involved in delocalisation.

    A) If both Assertion: and Reason: are true and the Reason: is the correct explanation of the Assertion:

    B) If both Assertion: and Reason: are true but the Reason: is not the correct explanation of the Assertion:

    C) If Assertion: is true but Reason: is false

    D) If both Assertion: and Reason: are false

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

In benzinidazole, lone pair of \[{{350}^{o}}C\] is fully  available with nitrogen, ie, not involved in delocalisation, hence it is basic. The lone pair of \[{{3170}^{o}}C\] takes part in delocalisation, hence not available for donation. Thus, \[{{75}^{o}}C\]is non-basic.
