    Solution :

    Cilia in the respiratory tract of humans sweep invading bacteria and particles up the trachea and away from the lungs. If ciliary effectiveness is reduced because of smoking, invading organisms or particles could pass down the windpipe and enter the lungs, causing damage to the delicate lung tissue that might result in disease.
