  • question_answer
Extranuclear DNA (genes) are located in:

    A)                                                                                                         lysosomes and chloroplasts

    B)                 Golgi complex and ribosomes

    C)                 chloroplasts and mitochondria

    D)                 ribosomes and mitochondria

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Cytoplasmic genes plasmogens, cytogenes extranuclear genes or extrachromosomal genes are located in the cytoplasm or outside of the nucleus. The term plasmon is used to the sum total of genes present in the cytoplasm of a cell while the term plastome is used to the genes found in the plastids of a cell. Similarly the term chondrione is used to the some total of genes present in the mitochondria of a cell. All the available evidence indicate that extranuclear genes (DNA) are located in mitochondria and plastids of a cell.
