NEET AIPMT SOLVED PAPER 2000

  • question_answer
The enzyme which catalyses fixation of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] in \[{{C}_{4}}\] plants is:

    A)                 RuBP carboxylase

    B)                 hydrogenase

    C)                 PEP carboxylase

    D)                 reductase

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

In \[{{C}_{4}}\] plants, initial fixation of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] takes place in the mesophyll cells. The primary acceptor of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] is phosphoenol pyruvate (=PEP) which combines with \[C{{O}_{2}}\] in the presence of PEP carboxylase to form oxaloacetic acid.                 RuBP carboxylase is the primary \[C{{O}_{2}}\] acceptor in \[{{C}_{3}}\] plants.                 Hydrogenase enzyme is common in micro organisms. It takes up or evolves gaseous \[{{O}_{2}}\]. Reductase or dehydrogenase enzyme catalyzes the dehydrogenation or removal of hydrogen atoms (or electrons).
