NEET AIPMT SOLVED PAPER 2002

  • question_answer
                    Which reaction is not feasible?

    A)                                                                                                            \[2KI+B{{r}_{2}}\to 3KBr+{{I}_{2}}\]

    B)                         \[2KBr+{{I}_{2\,}}\to \,2KI+B{{r}_{2}}\]

    C)                 \[2KBr+C{{l}_{2}}\to 2KCl+B{{r}_{2}}\]

    D)                 \[2{{H}_{2}}O+2{{F}_{2}}\to 4HF+{{O}_{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[2KBr+{{I}_{2}}\xrightarrow{{}}2KI+B{{r}_{2}}\]                 reaction is not possible because \[B{{r}^{-}}\] ion is not oxidised in \[B{{r}_{2}}\] with \[{{I}_{2}}\] due to higher electrode potential of \[{{I}_{2}}\] than bromine. In halogens fluorine can displace chlorine bromine and iodine, chlorine can displays bromine and iodine and bromide can display iodine from their salts.
