  • question_answer
    A man of 50 kg mass is standing in a gravity free space at a height of 10m above the floor. He throws a stone of 0.5 kg mass downwards with a speed \[\text{2m}{{\text{s}}^{\text{-1}}}\]. When the stone reaches the floor, the distance of the man above the floor will be

    A) 9.9 m

    B)        10.1m

    C) 10 m

    D)        20 m

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    mr = constant                              \[{{m}_{1}}{{r}_{1}}={{m}_{2}}{{r}_{2}}\]                 \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{r}_{2}}=\frac{{{m}_{1}}{{r}_{1}}}{{{m}_{2}}}\]                                 \[=\frac{0.5\times 10}{50}=0.1\] The distance of the man above the floor (total height) = 10 + 0.1 = 10.1m.
