                     Leishmania donovani causes Kala-azar or Visceral leishmaniasis. Parasites are primarily found in Leishmania stage in the reticulo-endothelial cells of spleen, liver, intestinal mucosa, lymph gland and bone marrow, in which these multiply by binary fission. Its vector is blood sucking sandfly of genus Phlebotomus. Kala-azar is characterized by enlargement of spleen, irregular fever an anaemia. Malaria is caused by infection with pathogenic protozoan parasite of blood, the Plasmodium. Female Anopheles mosquito transmits Plasmodium from person to person, thus serving as carrier or vector host.
