    A)                  Nepenthes

    B)  Solarium

    C)                  Cuscuta

    D)  Asparagus

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Nepenthes (pitcher plant) is an insectivorous plant. It is a climber where leaf blade is modified into a large pitcher of 10-45 cm length. The pitcher has a lid, a nectariferous rim, a slippery interior and floor having a digestive fluid with protease secreted by digestive gland. Cuscuta (Dodder) is total stem parasite with pale yellow stems and very small non-green scale leaves. The parasite sends haustoria into host to make connection with its xylem and phloem. Solanum is underground stem. It is a swollen tip of underground branches which do not bear roots. The undergound branches develop from the axil of lower leaves, eg, Jerusalem artichoke etc. Asparagus stem is modified into cladode, which develops in clusters. They are straight or curved slightly flattened, pointed fleshy structure.
