Deficiency of nitrogen causes chlorosis starting from older leaves, stunted growth due to decreased protein synthesis, smaller cells and inhibition or slow divisions, premature leaf fall, wrinkling of cereal grains etc. Blight disease of rice is caused by bacterium Xanthomonas oryzae.
