Which of the following structures is present in mitochondria?

    A)                  Polysomes

    B)  Dictyosomes

    C)                  Quantasomes

    D)  Oxysomes

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Mitochondria consists of two membranes, an outer limiting membrane and an inner membrane. The inner membrane, in the cristae region is covered by the particles of 85 nm size. These particles are called elementary or \[{{F}_{1}}\] particles or oxysomes or respiratory assemblies. Polysomes or Polyribosomes are the ggregate of ribosomes in association with a single messenger RNA molecules during the translation process of protein synthesis. In eukaryotes, they are attached to the surface of rough endoplasmic reticulum. Dictyosomes are the cup-shaped array of flattened membraneous vessicles found in plant cell. They modify proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum and may also polymerise sugar to polysaccharides. Thylakoid membrane of chloroplast has particles embedded on it called quanta- somes. They are photosynthetic units and each one of which is 180 A long, 150 A wide and 10 A thick, containing 250 chlorophyll molecules.
