The time period of a body suspended by a spring is T. The new time period when the spring is cut into two equal parts and body is suspended by one part is

    A)  \[\sqrt{2}T\]

    B)  \[\frac{T}{\sqrt{2}}\]

    C)  \[\frac{T}{\sqrt{3}}\]

    D)  \[\sqrt{3}T\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The period of oscillation of a body of mass m suspended by a spring is\[T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{m}{k}}\] On cutting the spring into two equal parts, the length of each part will remain half and the force constant of each part will be doubled (2k). Hence, new time period is \[T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{m}{2k}}=\frac{T}{\sqrt{2}}\]
