    A)  ruminate endosperm

    B)  xenia

    C)  metaxenia

    D)  None of the above

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Metaxenia is effect of pollen on tissue outside endosperm. It was studied in date palm. This phenomenon was given by Swingle (1926). Xenia is the effect of pollen on endosperm. It was discovered by Focke (1801), eg, yellow endosperm instead of white endosperm of the parent plant in maize. Ruminate endosperm is the mature endosperm with any degree of irregularity and uneveness in its surface contour. It is known to occur in 32 families of angiosperms. Rumination is caused by the activity of the seed coat or the endosperm itself.
