    A)  cataphyll

    B)  sporophyll

    C)  leaflet

    D)  cladophyll

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Sporophyll is the leaf that bears sporangia. In ferns, the sporophylls are the normal foliage leaves, but in other plants the sporophylls are modified and arise in specialised structures called cones. Most plants produce spores of two different size-small microspore and large megaspore. The sporophyll bearing these are called microsporophyll and megasporophyll respectively. Cataphyll is the term used for any simplified leaf like scale or cotyledon. In compound leaf, the lamina divides completely into distinct and separate segments called leaflets. It is devoid of axillary bud and all the leaflets develop in the same plane. Cladophyll (phylloclade) is a modified stem, which carryout the function of photosynthesis. These have several nodes and intemodes, eg, Opuntia.
