    Solution :

Photoperiodism is the effect of duration of light and darkness on the growth, development and behaviour of organism. The effect of photoperiod on flowering was discovered by Gamer and Allard. On the basis of their response to photoperiod, plants are of following types (i) Long Day Plant (LDP) : Plants flower after receiving light above critical length, eg, wheat, oat, sugarbeet, spinach, radish etc. (ii) Short Day Plant (SDP) : Plants flower only when they receive light below a critical length, eg, potato, tobacco, Xanthuim, Dahlia, Chrysanthemum etc. (iii) Day Neutral Plant (DNP) : Photoperiod have no impact on these plants which come to flower after completing their vegetative growth, eg,  tomato, maize, cotton etc. (iv) Short-Long Day Plant (SLDP): Short photoperiod for initiation of flowering and long photoperiod for blossoming, eg, Campanula medium, Trifolium repens. (v) Long-Short Day Plant (LSDP): Long photoperiod for initiation of flowering and short photoperiod for blossoming, eg, Bryophyllum, Cestrum.
