The process of maturation of reproductive cells in the testes is known as

    A)  spermatocyte

    B)  spermatogenesis

    C)   androgenesis

    D)  spermiogenesis

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Spermiogenesis (spermateleosis, spermio teleosis) is process of differenciation of a spermatozoan from a spermatid (a non-motile cell). Spermatocyte is a diploid cell in the testes that divides by meiosis to give rise to four spermatids. A primary Spermatocyte develops from a spermatogonium. Two secondary spermatocytes result from the first meiotic division of a primary Spermatocyte, each of these produces two spermatids after the second meiotic division. Spermatogenesis is the process of formation of haploid spermatozoa from diploid germinal cells of seminiferous tubules. Androgenesis is the process of anther culture.
