                     Family Leguminosae is most vast dicot family, divided into three sub families on the basis of corolla and androecium. The three sub  families are : (i) Papilionaceae: Papilionaceous corolla with vexillary aestivation, diadelphous condition and marginal placentation, eg, gram. (ii) Caesalpinoideae: Imbricate aestivation, polyandrous stamens with few staminodes and marginal placentation, eg, Imli, Amaltas etc. (iii) Mimosoideae: Valvate aestivation, free or monadelphous stamens and marginal placentation, eg, gum or babool, touch me not etc. This family comprises of some 550 genera and 13000 species and is the IIIrd largest family of flowering plants, being exceeded in number by Compositae and Orchidaceae.
