Alkaline dilute \[KMn{{O}_{4}}\] solution is called

    A)  Etard reagent

    B)  Benedict reagent

    C)  Mullikans reagent

    D)  Baeyefs reagent

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                     (i) Etard reagent: The chromyl chloride \[(Cr{{O}_{2}}C{{l}_{2}})\] dissolved in \[CC{{l}_{4}}\] is known as Etard reagent. It is used to convert toluene into benzaldehyde. (ii) Benedict reagent: It is an alkaline solution of cupric ions complexed with citrate ions. It is used for the detection of sugars in urine because sugar contain aldehydic group. (iii) Mullikans reagent 10% \[CaC{{l}_{2}}\] solution and Zn dust is known as Mullikans reagent. It is used in the detection of ?\[N{{O}_{2}}\]group. (iv) Baeyers reagent 1% alkaline \[KMn{{O}_{4}}\]solution is called Baeyers reagent. It is used for the test of unsaturation.
