    A)                  spiral margin

    B)                  smooth or waxy margin

    C)                  smooth margin

    D)                  None of the above

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Spirogyra is filamentous alga chiefly found in ponds, pools, ditches. The plant is multicellular, unbranched filament consisting of numerous similar cells placed end to end in a single row. The cell has structure typical of a parenchymatous cell and consists of two parts cell wall and protoplast. The cell wall surrounds the protoplast and is protective in nature. Protoplast is differenciated into plasma membrane, cytoplast, nucleus, one or more chloroplast with pyrenoids and a large central vacuole. Each chloroplast is an elongated, green, helical band lying against the wall. All the chloroplasts in cell may be loosely or tightly coiled and run spirally in parallel. The band shaped chloroplast is either narrow or broad. The narrow has smooth margin and the broad serrated.
