Meristic variations are variations, which involve changes in number of parts segments, eg, in human beings hands, and feet can have extra digits. This is known as polydactyly. The number of digits can be less due to fusion called as syndactyly Positive meristic results due to increase in number of body parts. Negative meristic results due to loss in number of body parts. Hybridization is the process of production of one or more hybrid organism by the matting of genetically different parents. Blastogenic or germinal variation is the variation, which affects the germ cells of an organism and are heritable. They are transmitted from one generation to the next. Substantive variations are variations, which  affect whole of the organism, for example in human being substantive variations are found in height and weight of individuals belonging to same age.
