A change in the relative abundance of an allele (the allelic frequency) within a population, over a succession of generations is called

    A)                  micro evolution

    B)                  macro evolution

    C)                  co - evolution

    D)                  phylogenetic evolution

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The evolution, which results from the interaction of the elemental forces of evolution, to produce relatively small changes in the population or populations, is known as micro evolution. This process mainly consists of change in the gene frequencies in a population from one generation to the next. Macro evolution is evolution which results in the production of new adaptive types through a process of population fragmentation and genetic divergence. It operates above the species level and results in splitting of the population into several subgroups, each of which exhibits changes in a definite adaptive  direction. Coevolution   is   the   evolution   of complementary adaptation in two species caused by the selection pressure that each exerts on the other. It is common in symbiotic association.
