                     Modem man evolved from Cro-magnon whose cranial capacity was about 1600 cc. These were swift footed, cave dwelling forms and were expert hunters. Homo erectus includes fossil obtained from diverse sites ranging from Olduvai George in Africa to Java, Algeria, China, Hungary and Germany. It includes (i) Java man having cranial cavity about 940 cc. Intermediate between that of Australopithecus and modem man. (ii) Peking man lived most probably about 1.5 to 5,00,000 years ago. Their cranial cavity ranged from 850-1200 cc and averaging 1075 cc. Neanderthal man exist in the late Pleistocene period and its fossils were found in the Neanderthal valley in Germany. Cranial cavity was about 1450 cc roughly equal to modem man.
