In Echinodermata, tube feet are related with

    A)                  locomotion

    B)                  excretory system

    C)                  respiratory system

    D)                  reproductive system

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

In echinoderms, tube feet are meant for locomotion. They are extensible tubular process bearing suckers and present in rows on the under surface. They are connected internally with ambulacral or water vascular system. Each tube feet has an ampulla, a podium and a sucker, the wall possesses longitudinal muscles. Ampulla additionally possesses circular muscles. They are sensory structure that take part in adhesion, locomotion, respiration and food capturing. Excretory organs are absent in echinoderms. Excretion occurs partly by diffusion through body surface and partly by amoeboid cells myocytes, coelonocytes pick up excretory waste and carry the same to the exterior through papulae (dermal skin). In echinoderms, respiration takes place through dermal branchiae {eg, Asteroidea), peritonial gill, genital bursae, respiratory tree and tube feet. Echinoderms are dioecious, fertilization is external and development indirect through free swimming larval forms.
