Guttation was discovered by Bergerstein in 1887. It results a consequence of root pressure. In this process, water is liberated in form of water droplets from the margin or apex of leaf lamina. It is an uncontrolled process and takes place through loosely arranged water pores called hydathodes or water stomata. Loss of water from the aerial parts in transpiration causes a suction pressure in the water column of the plant. This is known as transpiration pull and lift the water upwardly.
