    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Prions are proteinaceous infectious particles found in the brain of mammals that is believed to be the agent responsible for the disease scrapie in sheep. The abnormal prion protein induces the normal protein to fold incorrectly. These accumulate in the brain and progressively damage and destroy brain cells. These particles can be transmitted to other individual of the same or closely related species by injection or ingestion of infected tissue and appear to be transmissible between species that are not closely related, eg, between cattle and humans.
