In producing chlorine through electrolysis.. 100 kW power at 125 V is being consumed. The mass of chlorine per minute liberated, will be                              \[(z=0.367\times {{10}^{-6}}kg/C)\]

    A)  \[\text{17}.\text{61}\times \text{l}{{\text{0}}^{\text{-3}}}\text{ kg}\]

    B)  \[10.61\times {{10}^{-3}}kg\]

    C)  \[\text{12}.\text{61}\times \text{1}{{0}^{-3}}\text{kg}\]

    D)  None of the above

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

                     From Faradays law of electromagnetic induction, mass of electrons released is \[m=Z\,I\,t\]where \[I\] is current, t is time and z electrochemical equivalent. Also,      \[P=VI\] \[\therefore \]  \[I=\frac{P}{V}=\frac{100\times {{10}^{3}}}{125}=800\,A\]                 \[m=Z\,I\,t\]                 \[=0.367\times {{10}^{-6}}\times 800\times 60\]                 \[=17.61\times {{10}^{-3}}kg\]
