    Nuclides

    A)  have specific atomic numbers

    B)  have same number of protons

    C)  have specific atomic number and mass numbers

    D)  are isotopes

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Nuclides have a definite number of protons and neutrons and consequently definite atomic number and mass number. Such as oxygen nuclei contains 8 protons and 8 neutrons. \[(_{8}^{16}O)\]. The atomic number is 8 and mass number = number of neutrons + number of protons = 8 + 8 = 16 While isotopes are atoms with same atomic number but different mass number.
