    Lysosomes are bounded by single unit membrane and were discovered by de Duve. They contain numerous hydrolydc enzymes in latent form, ie, the enzymes are enclosed by a membrane and are not readily available to the substrate most of the lysosomal enzymes acts in an acidic medium. They are abundantly found in phagocytic cells (WBCs), chondroclasts and osteoclasts. They take part in solubilisation of material obtained from outside through pinocytosis or phagocytosis.
