The type of pollination found in Calotropis is

    A)  dicliny

    B)  herkogamy

    C)  heterostyly

    D)  dichogamy

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Herkogamy is type of a natural barrier develops between anthers and stigma to check pollination. The stigma projects beyond the stamens so that pollen do not fall on it. In heterostyly, the flower may be of two or more types with regard to mainly the length of the style and length of stamens. The pollen from a flower can bring about effective pollination in flowers of a different types, eg, primrose (Primula vulgaris) which has two types of flowers.  Pineyed or long styled flower.  Thrum eyed or short styled flower. Dichogamy is the condition, in which the male and female reproductive organs of flower mature at different time, thereby ensuring  that self fertilization does not occur, eg. In Saxifraga aizoides and Impatiens, the anthers dehisce much more before the stigma of the same flower attains receptivity. Diclinous plants are those bearing unisexual flower. In dioecious plants, nothing else can take place. In monoecious plants, the only alternative is geitenogamy.
