    A)  pure water

    B)  impure water

    C)  in vapour form

    D)  either  or

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Guttation is exudation of water in liquid form and is manifested by herbaceous plants, eg, Colocasia and Nymphaepholia. It occurs via special pores on leaves called hydathodes (water stomata). The opening of hydathodes may or may not be covered with a guard cell. They are surrounded by a mass of thin walled parenchymatous cell, which is supplied by xylem cells that conduct water. The exudation of water through hydathodes takes place due to a pressure developed in the xylem sap. The water lost by the process of guttation contains both organic and inorganic substances. The process of loss of water in the form of vapours is called transpiration. During this process, pure water is lost by the aerial part of the plant.
