Which of the following elements are essential for the photolysis of water?

    A)  Ca and Cl

    B)  Mn and Cl

    C)  Zn and l

    D)  Cu and Fe

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Photolysis of water is associated with PS-II and are catalysed by the presence of \[M{{n}^{2+}}\]and CT ions. When PS-II receives light, the water molecules split into \[O{{H}^{-}}\] and \[{{H}^{+}}\].                 \[{{H}_{2}}O\xrightarrow[C{{l}^{-}}]{M{{n}^{+2}}}O{{H}^{-}}{{H}^{+}}\] Calcium is required as calcium pectate in middle lamella, development of root and shoot apex. Increase cell permeability, also as an activator of some enzymes, also as helps in organisation of mitotic spindle. Zinc helps in synthesis of auxin, as an activator of certain carboxylases and dehydrogenase. It is also a component of carbonic anhydrase. Iodine helps in proper functioning of thyroid hormone. Copper is constituent of plastocyanin and hence, involved in photophosphorylation, maintains \[{{N}_{2}}\]-carbohydrate balance. Iron is constituent of ferredoxin and cytochrome flavoproteins, activates catalase, involved in chlorophyll formation and thus in photosynthesis, also involved in respiration.
