Agrobacterium tumefaciens contains a large plasmid, which induces tumour in the plants, it is termed as

    A)  Ti plasmid

    B)  Ri plasmid

    C)  recombinant plasmid

    D)  shine delgrano sequence

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Agrobacterium tumifaciens contains a plasmid called Ti plasmid (pTi) or tumour inducing plasmid. Tills plasmid transfers a part of their DNA called T-DNA. The Ti plasmid is a large conjugative plasmid. Ri-plasmid pRi plasmid is present in Agrobacterium rhizogenes. It is called so as it gives rise to hairy roots. Recombinant plasmid is formed by introducing some gene of one vector to another and used for genetic engineering. Shine delgrano sequence is a sequence of five to nine nucleotides proceeding the start codon in prokaryotic messenger RNA (mRNA). That is recognised by the ribosome as the correct site for binding the mRNA molecule prior to start of translation. The sequence (AGGAGGU) binds a complementary sequence on the 16S ribosomal subunit, helping to form a stable complex between the ribosome and mRNA.
