    Chymotrypsin is produced by

    A)  liver

    B)  pancreas

    C)  stomach

    D)  duodenum

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Chymotrypsin is produced by pancreas, which is a mixed gland. It also secretes hormones. The enzyme is secreted as an inactive precursor, chymotrypsinogen, which is activated by another pancreatic protease trypsin. It works between pH of 7.5 - 8.5 and acts on casein and protein producing calcium paracaseinate and large peptides. Liver does not secrete any enzyme. Stomach adds gastric juice, produces an intrinsic factor for absorption of \[{{B}_{12}}\], secretes hormone gastrin, absorbs alcohol, drugs, sugar and water. Gastrin histamine and vagal activation stimulate secretion of gastric juice and churning movement of stomach. Duodenum is a long wider tube that forms U shaped arch with stomach. Brunnefs glands occur in it. It secretes enzymes like enterokinase, minopeptidase (breaking larger peptides into smaller peptides) dipeptidase (dipeptide into amino acids), nucleotidase, nucleosidase, intestinal lipase, isomaltase, lactase, maltase and sucrose (invertase).
