The basic component of the smog is

    A)  PAN

    B)  PBN

    C)  \[N{{O}_{2}}\]

    D)  All of these

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

In cities with many industries and automobile traffic, the atmosphere is polluted by the smoke. The main components of smoke are unsaturated hydrocarbon, NO and some sulphur compounds. Hydrocarbon and other organic compounds are oxidised through a chemical and photochemical reaction. As a result many secondary pollutant products and intermediate are produced which belong to the category of photochemical smog. Peroxya-cylnitrate (PAN), peroxybenzoyl nitrate (PBN), nitrogen dioxide \[(N{{O}_{2}})\], hydrogen peroxide etc. are the components of smog. Photo- chemical smog is an oxidising smog having high concentration of oxidant.                 \[NO+{{O}_{3}}\xrightarrow{hv}N{{O}_{2}}+{{O}_{2}}\]
