(ii) Number of nucleons = number of protons + number of neutrons (iii) It is found that the mass of a nucleus is always less than the sum of masses of its constituent nucleons in free state. The difference in masses is called mass defect. (iv) Nucleons belong to the family of hadrons while electrons belong to family of leptons.
