Stanley Miller had put the Oparin-Haldane theory to test in 1953 by creating in the laboratory, the probable conditions on the primitive Earth. In the experiment, simple amino acids were synthesized from the following mixtures as observed after 18 days

    A)  \[{{H}_{2}},{{O}_{2}},N\]and \[{{H}_{2}}O\]

    B)  \[C{{H}_{4}},CN,{{H}_{2}}\] and \[{{O}_{2}}\]

    C)  \[{{H}_{2}},N{{H}_{3}},C{{H}_{4}}\] and water vapour

    D)  \[N{{H}_{3}},C{{H}_{4}}\] and \[{{O}_{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Miller (1953) set an experiment to test the Oparin-Haldanes theory. He created primitive atmosphere like conditions by sealing in a spark chamber, a mixture of water vapour\[({{H}_{2}}O)\], methane \[(C{{H}_{4}})\], ammonia \[(N{{H}_{3}})\] and hydrogen gas \[({{H}_{2}})\]. After eighteen days, significant amount of the simple major organic compounds (monomers), such as ammo acids and peptide chains, began to appear in the aqueous sample of the experimental set.
