AMU Medical AMU Solved Paper-2013

  • question_answer
A U-tube contains two liquids in static equilibrium: Water of density \[{{\rho }_{w}}(=1000\,kg/{{m}^{3}})\] is in the right arm and oil of unknown density \[\rho \] is in the left arm as shown in the figure. Measurement gives \[l=135\,mm\] and \[d=12.5\,mm\]. The density of oil is

    A)  1092 \[kg/{{m}^{3}}\]

    B)  961 \[kg/{{m}^{3}}\]

    C)  915 \[kg/{{m}^{3}}\]

    D)  843 \[kg/{{m}^{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

                    From given figure                 \[{{\rho }_{0}}+{{\rho }_{1}}g{{h}_{1}}={{\rho }_{0}}+{{\rho }_{w}}\,gh\omega \]                 \[\frac{{{\rho }_{1}}}{{{\rho }_{w}}}=\frac{{{h}_{w}}}{{{h}_{1}}}\]                 \[{{\rho }_{1}}=\frac{{{h}_{w}}}{{{h}_{1}}}\times {{\rho }_{w}}\]                 \[=\frac{135\times 100}{147.5}\]                 \[=915\,kg/{{m}^{3}}\]
