AMU Medical AMU Solved Paper-2015

  • question_answer
What will be the pH of 0.1 M ammonium acetate solution? \[(p{{K}_{a}}=p{{K}_{b}}=4.74)\]

    A)  4.74

    B)  6.74

    C)  7.74

    D)  7.00

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Ammonium acetate \[(C{{H}_{3}}COON{{H}_{4}})\] is a salt of weak acid and weak base.                 \[pH=7+\frac{1}{2}\,(p{{K}_{a}}-p{{K}_{b}})\] Given that, \[p{{K}_{a}}=p{{K}_{b}}=4.74\] Putting that values, we get                 \[pH=7+\frac{1}{2}\,(4.74-4.74)\]                                 \[=7+0=7\]
