                     Hatch and Slack, 1966 discovered an alternate pathway of \[C{{O}_{2}}\]fixation. In this scheme the \[C{{O}_{2}}\] acceptor   is   phosphoenolpymic acid(PEPA) and the first product is oxaloacetic acid. The first product of this cycle is 4-carbon compound, hence, it is popularly called as \[{{C}_{4}}\]cycle and the plants where it is found as \[{{C}_{4}}\] plants. \[C{{O}_{2}}\]is essential for photosynthesis. \[\text{6C}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\text{+6}{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\text{O}\xrightarrow[\text{Chlorophyll}]{\text{Sunlight}}{{\text{C}}_{\text{6}}}{{\text{H}}_{\text{12}}}{{\text{O}}_{\text{6}}}\text{+6}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\] Transport of food from leaves to other parts of the plant with the help of phloem is called translocation.
