Directions : In the following question more than one of the answers given may be correct. Select the correct answer and mark it according to the code:

Select the correct statement: (1) Lenticel is the exit route for transpiration (2) The action spectra of transpiration is blue and red (3) Transpiration helps the plant to remain cool (4) Transpiration can be measured by photometer

    A)  1, 2 and 3 are correct

    B)  1 and 2 are correct

    C)   1, 2 and 4 are correct

    D)  1 and 3 are correct

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The loss of water in the vapour form from the exposed parts of a plant is called transpiration. Lenticular transpiration is found only in the woody branches of the trees where lendcles occur. The lenticles connects the atmospheric air with the cortical tissue of the stem through the intercellular spaces present amongst the complementary cells. Both red and blue parts of light are effective though the latter is slightly more effective in   transpiration. Potometer is an apparatus for measuring the rate of transpiration.
